On some unfortunate occasions choosing to comp a meal is the obvious answer, but more often than not, this choice is one that has to be made sparingly. But, how do you know when comping a meal is worth it? Have you exhausted every other means to make the customer happy? Buying the entire bar a drink would be far too costly, you have to give out your “Buybacks” wisely. These kinds of acts are the things that keep customers coming back for more and often, they are what gets you recommended to friends and family. A big consideration is your bar. A lot of the day’s money flows through here, and bartenders, just like servers and managers, need the tools to make a judgement call on when to “push the button” and comp a customer.
