HB 498 STATE PREEMPTION OF WAGE & LEAVE LAWS
NMRA CEO Carol Wight will be providing expert testimony for HB 498 STATE PREEMPTION OF WAGE & LEAVE LAWS in REGULATORY & PUBLIC AFFAIRS committee tomorrow, Friday- 1:30 p.m. (Room 315 – State Legislature)
This law would preempt municipalities from making wage law. Unfortunately, this law will not apply to the municipalities that have already passed minimum wage laws but it will prevent any more from being passed.
BACKGROUND: New Mexico’s economic development is affected when there are several different wages and leave laws within our state. Rather than having the whole state fall under the same guidelines, municipalities have created their own wage and labor laws. This also creates confusion for both employer and employee.
URGENT CALL TO ACTION:
Please call committee members and let them know why you support preemption.
