Muli generational kitchen staffHave you been having trouble with your employees relating to generational gaps? Fast Casual summarized a session on multi-generational employees that was held at the recent NRA convention in Chicago.  They have some advice on how different generations think and the best course of action handling certain situations. Several things to keep in mind are that different generations have different expectations and views on how work should be and how training should be. Baby boomers like to be recognized for the work that they do and Millennials have certain expectations about what the employer should be providing. Training is also perceived differently by different generations. Millennials don’t do as well with classroom-like training sessions and instead expect training to happen as they work so they can tap into tips and guidelines as they occur. Older generations are much more accepting of the classroom-like training sessions and this difference is something to keep in mind. You also need to consider communication when working with multi-generational employees. Millennials like to be told why they are doing what they are doing and the fastest and clearest way to do it. Older generations tend to be more accepting of doing something just because management says so. Also, Millennials are more focused on moving up the ladder and knowing the steps to get there and older generations are less so.
