Former NMRA President Passes Away

Las Cruces, NM  – The New Mexico Restaurant Association is saddened to learn of the death of Peter Schaefer. He was a past president of the New Mexico Restaurant Association and served with distinction for many years on our Board of Directors. Schaefer owned and operated Hacienda Restaurant in Las Cruces. Peter was a food person, being the first Certified Chef in New Mexico, and, as a native New Mexican, he used locally available products with zeal and relish. But, his real strength lay in his people skills. He took pride in his culinary talents but he loved his customers. He had a generous nature and a kind heart. He will be missed.

The New Mexico Restaurant Association’s mission is to empower the food and beverage industry by promoting and protecting common values and interests. It has more than 1,000 members in 111 cities all over New Mexico, who join together for meetings, seminars and the hospitality industry awards to honor the industry’s top achievers. It has actively represented and promoted the food service industry in New Mexico since 1946.
